Water Damage or Flood?

Unfortunately, a lot of people do not have flood insurance. When water damage happens to one's house due to a flood, they are often left with a mess and no help from the insurance company. But, it is still important to contact your insurance company if you sustain water damage because sometimes you may have coverage for water damage depending on the situation.

Water damage is covered under a homeowners insurance policy if the problem is due to a storm, such as a tree falling on your roof then rain coming in. So, even if there are storms then a flood, you should be able to get coverage for the water damage due to the storm damage, but the flood damage will only be covered under a flood insurance policy.

I haven’t yet met a client that had a water damage loss that fully understood what their policy coverage consisted of… We recently assisted with the Chicago flooding and I ran into a lot of homeowners that had thousands in damage and no coverage. Floodtechs – Emergency Water Damage Restoration

Same here. The insurance policies are written so that homeowners can’t understand them. The best thing a homeowner can do is contact a water removal company like Flood Specialists, Inc. before contacting your insurance. Water damage restoration professionals know what questions to ask and what to say to insurance companies.

Yes i spoke to a homeowner in New Jersey a couple of weeks ago that mistakenly said that her house got flooded and the insurance rep told her that she did not have coverage for flooding and that she was on her own. She called them back and told them that the damage was from rainwater and they said that they would send out a adjuster to take a look and possibly reverse their stance.. Another tidbit of info… Federal Disaster Assistance is a loan that has to be paid back… Flood insurance on average will cost around $35 a month. It is worth getting if you qualify for it. It takes 30 days after activating the policy for it to take effect, don’t wait until its too late… Visit our site for more info on Water Damage Restoration or Flood Damage Restoration.
