Weekend Insurance Tip: Know How to File an Insurance Complaint

By , About.com GuideFebruary 28, 2009

Follow me on:

Most insurance companies are good at taking care of their customers claims but, not every system is perfect and sometimes you will need to work a little harder to make sure the insurance company does what it should. Take for example a recent complaint to the Mercury News Action Line:

"Last month my neighbor across the street lost control of her car and ran into my house. A tree is down, the support post to my overhang is down, several bushes are uprooted, the corner of my house is bashed in. No one was hurt. I immediately made a copy of her driver's license and insurance information. She is insured with AAA. I am 76 and handicapped. To date, AAA has not sent a claims adjuster to my home to look at the damage. They have asked me to take pictures for them. They have asked me for the name of a contractor. I live in a mobile home and AAA tells me they do not have any contractors who know how to work on mobile homes. I provided them with the name and phone number of a contractor who has in the past done major work for me. I would guess there is several thousand dollars' damage done."

This situation is unfortunate but if you know how to handle an insurance complaint ahead of time, it will make the process much easier.

Keep up the good work with the insurance posts.

I am a physician in a little nonprofit clinic in Oakland, CA. We have gotten to the point where we can hardly take care of our patients anymore due to barriers imposed by the health insurance industry. Out of frustration and anger, today we just set up a website (www.helpreformhealthcare.org) to database insurance complaints so that lawmakers and policymakers get the picture. It is a short, anonymous survey with a good databased back end. We need help getting the word out about this site, because we’ll get the attention of decisionmakers only if we make our complaints known, and if there are a lot of them. There are, but our policy wonks have NO IDEA how bad the problem is because health info is protected.

Please help us by checking out the site and letting us know how to improve it, by taking the survey, and if possible, by getting the word out. We need to join together on this.

Thank you.

(2) Geico FraudWatch :

http://www.fbi.gov if Geico has doen such thins to you

Geico.fraud.you get what you pay for.
Geico commited insurance fraud against me. I was seriously injured, sustained a brain injury and have been out of work for a year and have permanent impairments. I have amnesia and the police and Geico did not do a formal investigation or accident reconstruction. I have amnesia. The woman that collided into my car also has Geico, so Geico did nothing to protect my interests as a result. They found me 100% negligent although there is no evidence that would hold up to a judge or jury. I am pursuing criminal charges against Geico and the other driver who I believe made a false statement to the police. The damage to the vehicles is inconsistent with the driver and Geico’s story.I dont have enough evidence at this time to file a civil suit, but I want revenge, those bastards and the driver are going to prison. They have committed state and federal laws and the only way they can not be harassed by me for the rest of their life is to murder me. I have a brain injury as a result of the other driver’s negligence and Geico has used my amnesia as a basis to turn my car into a cube as fast as they could. IF ANYONE HAS NOW OR IS CONSIDERING JOINING GEICO, PLEASE UNDERSTAND YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! THEY ARE VERY VERY CHEAP! NO DOUBT ABOUT IT! THIS IS PRIMARILY BECAUSE OF WHAT MY VICTIMIZATIOM ILLUStrates. both vehicles involved HAD GEICO, because they insure MANY cars, they are extremely more likely to insure both cars in a accident as compared to smaller insurers. In the case of the car collision into me, the parties were all “in house” with Geico. They had no incentive to protect my rights and get me a large settlement against the negligent driver that nearly killed me. Go with geico if you know for sure you will never get into any sort of accident, even a fender bender for the rest of your life.otherwise expect the possibility of bankruptcy, loss of your house, lifetime of unpaid medical bills and rent. dont sday you were not warned.

Oh and by the way, the state police believed the woman 100%,they wrote a negligence ticlet based on that and Geico followed that. Neither the police, or Geico did any sort of accident reconstruction or investigation, no pictures of the scene of the accident were even taken! I had a brain bleed and nearly died. Only then would it have gotten any publicity that my rights weren’t protected. There is rear damage to my car. This has been unexplained. Too bad my car was turned into a cube before I was functional enough to figure this out and contact law enforcement. Its useless now but I hope I can get everyone involved, the police, person who nealry killed me and all Geico persons that handled the case go to prison. My life is ruined now, they all profit form it either by salary, bonuses or other indirect ways.
