This was an interesting story I found today. The article is posted on
www.emailwire.com. Apparently a man who owns a pit bull cannot get the dog back unless he can prove he has insurance against any future bites. The article states, "A man from Texas is asking that his pit bull be returned to him after the dog was quarantined for biting three people. The man claims that his dog is not dangerous, and claims the dog only bit one man, his friend. Authorities will not allow the man to get his dog back unless he can provide proof of insurance coverage for dog bite injuries. The man has sought coverage from several insurance companies, but none were willing to insure his pit bull."
I wonder if he did find an insurance company that would cover his dog, how much the policy would cost! I am sure many of us would pay a high price to get our beloved pets back if we were in the same situation, but think about this: the case above represents a dog that has already bitten... what about being denied homeowners insurance just because you have a type of dog that has a social history of biting? That has happened to some and is becoming more common in many states.

That’s true if you are insured with Germania. We only write in Texas, and there are several dog breeds that prevent us from writing new business with potential clients. We have a list of “high risk breeds” and the pit bull is one of them.
