Finding the Cheap Dental Plan

Monday April 10, 2006
I need to see the dentist a lot. I have been told by my dentist that I have a lot of grooves in my teeth that just trap everything. Unfortunately my son has inherited the same groovy teeth. My husband, on the other hand, has never had a cavity and has been told he has very strong enamel on his teeth.

Whether you have groovy teeth like mine or strong teeth like my husband it pays to have dental insurance. A good dental insurance plan should typically cover two cleanings a year with no fee or office visit. In most plans X-rays and fluoride treatments are also covered at no additional cost. These benefits alone usually provide enough reason to carry dental insurance.

But when looking for dental insurance don't just look for the cheap dental plan. You've heard the saying..you get what you pay for. Besides cost, there are other factors you will want to consider before choosing your next dental insurance plan.

2 cleanings/check ups a year will cost you about $300 total. Better check to make sure your dental insurance didn’t cost more than that or it was a waste.
