The health insurance definition of out-of-pocket costs is any amount of money that will have to come from you, hence the term "out of [your]pocket". Two main areas to understand out-of-pocket costs in insurance are the out-of-pocket costs for services not covered and the out-of-pocket costs you are expected to pay before your insurance will pay.
