Not likely. It is the most umpopular and contraversal part of the new health care reform law recently signed. By 2014 individuals will be required to have health insurance or face fines of up to $695. The problem is that some may just pay the fine since it still may be much less than purchasing insurance. Also, the IRS is the enforcer but really can't do much besides maybe hold back a tax refund if one does not comply with the law.
The mandated insurance provision is a huge key into the success of the health reform law working. The only way that insurance costs will be lower is if everyone gets insurance, even the healthy. The contraversy lies with forcing individuals to purchase a product, which many feel is not American, and that healthy people should not be forced into the system to pay for the poor lifestyle choices of others. Currently 20 states are fighiting the mandated health care law saying that it is unconstutional.

I read an article in the local paper that indicated that this is going to be a fiasco. They compared it to waiting to see smoke coming out of your house, then calling State Farm and saying, “Hey, I need some insurance effective today”. The article also noted that it will be much cheaper to not carry health insurance and simply pay the fine. Who do you think is going to pay for the huge burden being passed to the insurance companies? Everyone that pays for health insurance will pay and pay dearly.
