Your Pets and the Holidays

Thursday November 12, 2009

With the holidays fast approaching many will have visitors coming soon or will be visitors. It is common to remember to baby proof or kid proof your house and for others to ask if your baby or child can have a certain treat or not... but what about your pet?

Many pet owners carry pet insurance as one tool to keep their pets healthy, just as one would carry insurance on their child. But many pet owners forget to remind others or forget to "pet proof" their homes as they would for children. As you can imagine, pets can get into many ornaments and other items that can make them sick. Along with that, it is important to let guests know what treats your pet can and cannot have. Having a pet friendly holiday can keep your pet healthier and save you both a visit to the veterinarian.

Great little article. It is very important to make your home safe for pets and kids alike. The holiday time is stressful on animals as well because of all the people around. I looked into getting my pug insured earlier this year for my pug since I know they have many health problems but are just so loveable! I signed up with Trupanion http://www.trupanionpetinsurance.com and they are great and already covered one of my claims. They even let you choose your own deductible and cover 90% of the bill. My pugger got a tumor not long ago and treatment is covered for his whole life. I totally agree with you, it’s definitely worth researching all the companies and seeing what works best for you, your wallet, and your pet.
