Who is Paying the "Hidden Health Insurance Tax?"

Probably you. According to the Associated Press, "Health insurance premiums for an average family are $1,000 a year higher because of costs of health care for the uninsured, a new report finds.

And private coverage for the average individual costs an extra $370 a year because of the cost-shifting, which happens when someone without medical insurance gets care at an emergency room or elsewhere and then doesn't pay.

The report was released Thursday by advocacy group Families USA, which said the findings — which it calls a "hidden tax" — support its goal of extending coverage to all the 50 million Americans who are now uninsured. Congress and the Obama administration are working on a plan to do that".

This is another reason why health insurance reform in desperately needed in this country. Hopefully the politicians can come up with something that benefits the people in need which includes the uninsured along with the people paying the “Hidden Tax” instead of the special interest this time.

You don’t save money by extending healthcare coverage.
