According to The Salt Lake Tribune, "The County Council [Salt Lake County, Utah] voted 6-3 Tuesday to extend health insurance, dental care, extended funeral leave, life insurance and a variety of other employment protections to unmarried partners or other "adult designees" of county employees.
"It's a political victory for Democratic Councilwoman Jenny Wilson, who has fought for same-sex-couple benefits since taking office in 2005. Wilson's plan will unlock employment benefits for the adult designees of unmarried county employees -- a term that applies to any friend, family member or domestic partner who has lived in the same home as the county staffer for at least a year and demonstrated financial codependence."
