Are You Eligible for Flood Insurance?

Tuesday October 7, 2008
Unfortunately, many communities in Iowa had to learn the hard way. According to www.kptm.com, "Even after a summer of record flooding, 131 Iowa cities and counties have not signed up for national flood insurance. For some Iowa communities, the lesson was learned the hard way when their communities were flooded this summer. According to FEMA, 29 Iowans have been denied federal aid because their towns didn't participate in the program. Bill Cappuccio, Iowa's coordinator for the flood insurance program, says only about six communities have recently enrolled. Iowa officials say a big concern is the number of homeowners who don't buy flood insurance even though their community is enrolled.

It is important to find out if your community offers flood insurance. If it does, check into what it would cost to cover your home. Usually it an inexpensive coverage for most.
