According to www.latimesblogs.latimes.com, "Renter's insurance is not incredibly popular with Los Angeles-area residents, according to recent findings from Allstate. Although 35% of the California renters the company surveyed carry protection for their belongings, only 27% in L.A. do. In contrast, 53% of Bay Area renting respondents opted for such insurance."

Why do you think this is? Well, most people don't think renter's insurance is needed or they think it is too expensive. Both are untrue. Renter's insurance is very reasonable in price and just the fact that one has liability coverage from renter's insurance is a stand alone reason to get renter's insurance.
