Thursday April 10, 2008
Do you have cell phone insurance? Well then, you may want to check and see if someone has filed a claim on it. According to www.nbc11.com, "Eleven people were arrested over the last week on numerous felony counts including insurance fraud, identity theft, possession of stolen property and filing a false tax return. Wireless phone dealers, employees and customers were arrested for their purported involvement in a $2 million insurance scam." Apparently the cell phone companies were filing claims on their customers cell phone insurance plans.
By the way, cell phone insurance is, for most people, and unneeded type of insurance. Other forms of unneeded insurance are applicance warranties, insurance for your mortgage and rental car insurance. As an insurer I like to keep up on these issues and found it very suspect that they were able to do it for so long without too much trouble. This is quite disturbing and I hope it brings around new measures to stop these things in the future.
