Insurance Scams and Building Contractors

Insurance fraud is more common that people realize. Not just the numbers reported but a lot of insurance fraud is not found or unreported. Just recently in Houston 7 people were charged in $1.2 million insurance scam. Apparently they decided to burn their own house down to collect the insurance money.

Sometimes insurance scams are in the form of building and repair contractors. Unfortunately there are contractors that prey on people’s fears and anxiety of what has just happened, especially when there is a large disaster area involved. You may be approached by one of these sales people that often go door-to-door canvassing neighborhoods to generate new business to offer their cleanup and repair services.
