Would You Drive Less for Cheaper Insurance?

Tuesday May 29, 2007
That's what a Seattle county hopes their residents will do. According to www.seattlepi.com, "The plan is for Unigard to sign up 5,000 drivers from across the state for the pilot program next year and equip their cars with Global Positioning System devices that will track mileage driven and when. After collecting data for three years, the company hopes to design "pay-as-you-drive" policies and seek approval to sell them from the state Insurance Commission. The idea is to provide economic incentive for people to drive less. The upshot may be a 15 percent mileage reduction and a savings of $50 to $100 in individual annual insurance costs, the county said."

Hmmm... a savings of $50-$100 annually? Doesn't sound like that is going to convince very many people to give up some of their driving. I applaud the effort, especially for the sake of the environment, but the insurance companies are going to have to give up a little more of their profits to convince people to drive less.

Want to save money now without taking away your driving time? One of the easiest ways to cut your insurance costs is to raise your deductible.
