Is Your Blog Insured?

I don't think most people have to worry about insuring their blog, but there may be a real risk when it comes to blogs owned by certain companies or individuals giving advice on their blogs. According to Macworld.com "A law firm in New Jersey has temporarily halted plans to launch a blog because its insurance company would not cover the blog under an existing malpractice insurance policy." Apparently their "insurance carrier said (a blog) is not a risk they were interested in insuring" because someone could try to "sue it (the law firm) over content in the blog."

Although I have not heard of any cases yet of people getting sued for their blogs, in this day and age we all know it could happen. So, if you are a malpractice target such as a lawyer, doctor, CPA, architect, or financial planner and you have a blog, it may be in your best interest to see if your malpractice insurance is covering your blog. It may also be worthwhile to check into an annuity for extra protection since annuities are credit protected in many states and therefore would generally be safe from malpractice suits.
