So, what happens when insurance companies start classifying certain dog breeds as high-risk? Well, homeowners with those specific dog breeds may have a hard time qualifying for a homeowners insurance policy. Current policy holders are also affected by paying more to own a high-risk breed or possibly being dropped after a liability claim from a dog incidence.

I recently read your “Dangerous Dog Breed” article and was quite upset when you said “get a mutt” instead of a purebred dog. I think before anyone gets a dog, they need to realize that getting a dog is a risk, no matter the breed! Some breeds are more of a risk than others. (Also, don’t go adopting someone’s problem. Start with something healthy and sound with mind and body. It makes for a much better pet!)

You should also know that a few Insurance companies give a discount if your dog is a ‘Canine Good Citizen’ and a dangerous dog breed. Please look into that especially if you own any dog. More information on AKC.org
