Sunday October 1, 2006
Getting your furnace ready for the cold? Don't forget to review the carbon monoxide and fires Home Accident Anytime Cleaning Project.

Carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas that is deadly, and an unexpected fire can be devastating to your family and home.

Here are some suggestions to eliminate the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning and fires from your home:

Make sure there are carbon monoxide and fire alarms on every floor of your home, near your furnace, in your kitchen, and near every bedroom.

Check all appliances and heating elements to make sure they are in good working order. Be aware of funny smells, soot, or heating flames that look different than normal and do not use the appliance until a professional has checked it.

When checking your appliances and heating elements, make sure nothing flammable is stacked up against them or anywhere near them where they could easily catch fire.
