High Health Insurance Rates for American Farmers
According to indystar.com it's the combination of being self-employed and being in a high-risk business. "Nationally, adults suffer farm-related accidents at a rate of 13.1 injuries per 1,000 adults; children are hurt at a rate of 12.7 injuries for every 1,000 children." These statistics are reported in the indystar.com article Large Portion of U.S. Farmworkers have Little or No Health Coverage.
How will this affect all the non-farmers? Well, if you buy any products that a farmer produces then more than likely you will ultimately have to pay more. Not because the farmers charge more but because a lot of farmers may stop farming because of the high health insurance expenses along with the other high expenses of being a farmer. Simple economics: Less Farmers = Less Supply = Higher Costs for You and I!
