Car Accident? Are You Getting Used Repair Parts?

Saturday May 20, 2006
Probably..but that is not necessarily a bad thing depending on who you ask. Personally, I feel aftermarket parts are just fine to use and do keep costs down for everyone.

After a car accident, your vehicle is taken to the repair shop. When it comes time to fix it, the damaged replacement parts used may include aftermarket parts. Aftermarket parts are not made by the original manufacturer. Depending on who one asks, the aftermarket parts used may be equal, better, or worse in quality than the original manufacturer parts.

When you have a car accident or need repairs for another reason, do you have a choice on the parts used? That depends on the state you live in, your insurance company and the body shop.

Since the majority of insurance companies do use aftermarket parts for collision repairs, if you are concerned about this practice there are steps the consumer can take to be aware and to make a decision if they do or do not want aftermarket parts used on their vehicle.
