Here It Comes Again: Universal Health Care

Saturday March 11, 2006
When was the last time your health insurance was lowered? Well, without having less benefits. My husband is a firefighter for a city department and he was told there was a time, not long ago, when the city paid for their health insurance premium. Will we ever see that again?

That is doubtful. America's health insurance costs are rising at a rate faster than inflation. It is hard to find a company anymore that can subsidize the cost of health care for their employees. Why? That depends on who you ask.

A combination of reasons including prescription drug costs, expensive technology, administrative costs, and malpractice insurance tops the list of reasons for rising health care costs. So, with politicians ready to pick-up the health care debate again, we start hearing the buzz word Universal Health Care.

We are the last industrialized country that has not adopted a universal health care policy. In Japan, one reason they are able to produce cars cheaper is because the companies don't have to provide health care for their employees since the country takes care of it. The key question to think about when deciding if Universal Health Care is right for America, is: Is the health care of a country's citizens a humanitarian responsibility of the country? Something definitely worth thinking about.

Well, what can you do now to help keep down your health care costs? Have you tried Self-Insuring?
